Launchings

In 1962, Bob Ahlers of Beachwood, New Jersey built a Penguin-class sailboat, hull no. 6276, for his son, Rob. The boy and his family named the boat PLAYBOY, and sailed it at the Beachwood Yacht Club for some time.

This boat took me 4 years in spare time to design and build. It has oak frames and spruse planking, the decks are chery and the transom and thorts are mahogany.

Wyn Menafee of Palmer, Alaska, and Roger Burleigh of Anchorage, Alaska, each built a Penobscot 17 from Arch Davis Designs.

This is my CLC Shearwater Sport Hybrid. Believe it or not this is the first thing that I have ever built from wood. It took me a little over 2 years to build. Built in an unheated building and working with epoxy in Buffalo gives you less that 6 months to work per year.

Kevin Moroney of Cape Coral, Florida, was building an 18′ modified sharpie skiff when his grandson, Colin, was born in Denver, Colorado, last year.

Rich Vogel purchased this 15' Marsh Cat sailboat in 2003. He named her JASMINE and added seats, lazarette, boom gallows, tabernacle to the hull constructed by Dan Fry in 1996. Rich lives near Boston, Massachusetts, and uses JASMINE on the waters from Boston Harbor to Nantucket Sound.

MARGALO is the name of a 9′6″ Nutshell pram built by Bill Denny of Washington State, for his son, Will, and daughter, Lindsay. Will and Lindsey chose MARGALO after Stuart Little's dear friend in the book of that name by E.B. White.

John T. Brunson writes that, at 70, he has refinished his Alcort Super Sailfish with all new bronze hardware and the original decals.

Sundowner had her humble beginnings at the WoodenBoat School’s 2011 Glued Lapstrake class taught by Geoff Kerr. I was fortunate enough to take her home and finish the work we had started. A local mill supplied the cherry, walnut, and pine which I used to finish the hull.
