Shellback dinghy—a classic Joel White design

Length: 11′ 2″
Draft: 7″ and 2’ 3″ (daggerboard down)
Beam: 4’ 5”
Sail Area: 54 sq ft
Displacement: 125 lbs
Plywood hull

The Shellback dinghy can be rowed, sailed, or towed as a tender for a larger boat. You can row and explore anywhere with her 7” of draft, or put down the daggerboard, raise the mast, and let the wind bring you back under sail.

She was built in the early 2010’s by the Carpenter’s Boat Shop, Pemaquid ME. She is stored on land at the Washington Sailing Marina on the Potomac in Washington DC.

She is priced at only $1,500 because the owner is relocating and the boat needs a paint job to restore her beauty; breasthook also needs epoxy added (see photo).

Price includes a Trailex boat dolly (with new tires in 2025) to move her in a marina; no trailer, but she can fit on a pick-up truck. Price also includes: sailing package (mast, boom, gaff, rudder, tiller, daggerboard, and tanbark sail (Pope) with reef points) that fits inside the boat; pair of Shaw and Tenny oars (leathered) and bronze oarlocks; mushroom anchor and line.

$1,500 or best offer
