Bruce Lemon designed this 17' Aleutian Baidarka skin-on-frame kayak, built by Charles Hall of Salt Lake City, UT. He made the frames from bent oak lashed to Douglas fir stringers. The skin is a synthetic canvas sewn together on top and around the canvas coaming. He used no glue or screws.
Built from plans by Eric Schade, sold thru Chesapeake Light Craft. Okoume plywood hull, Western red cedar and Northern white cedar deck. My grandson had outgrown his 8′ Duckling (also by Eric Schade) I made for his ninth birthday and chose this for his 15th birthday.
At just 39 pounds, this canoe is designed for easy portages in Derek Coleman's home waters of Killarney Park, Ontario. Derek designed an asymmetric hull with an adjustable, removable seat and nicely decorated bow stern decks.
This is the “Sea Rover” from the Science and Mechanics Boat Builder Handbook (circa 1958). This was built over the past 2 years. It is plywood over oak frames. I had actually built the 15′ version of this boat when I was 13 years old.
San Francisco Pelican built by George Weinbrenner. Designed by Captain Bill Short. Sails in the lakes and coastal waters of North Carolina.
Wood canvas canoe built 2010 at WoodenBoat School under instruction from Jerry Stelmok. Launched September 10, 2012 Sabine Bay Pensacola Beach Florida.
I recently finished restoring a 1960’s Comet sailboat. She needed a new deck and a good paint scraping. Many thanks to WoodenBoat School for instilling the confidence to take on such a project.
The Comet is a hard-chine boat with a low freeboard and centerboard. See WB 31.
Jack Farrell launched this Daisy skiff at Star Island, Isles of Shoals in New Hampshire, last summer. Students at the WoodenBoat School built the boat about ten years ago. One class member won the boat raffle and took it home to his home in New Jersey, where he planned to finish it off.
Donald Melick built a 14'2 x 4'6" Cosine Wherry in 1992. He added a sailing rig in 2002. It has 90 square feet of sail, and is a standing lug rig with a sprit boom. He used a sail plan from Phil Bolger's book 103 Sailing Rigs.
