M-Yak 500
I built the M-Yak 500 in summer 2020.
It is sleek and fast sit-on-top kayak for one or two paddlers that can easily built in stitch-and-glue.
This section of our web site, an extension of the Launchings department of WoodenBoat magazine, is dedicated to sharing news of recently launched wooden boats built or restored by our readers.
If you’ve launched a boat within the past year, please email us at launchings@woodenboat.com, or post your news here.

To refine your search, add quote marks. If you search Wood Duck, you will get all the listings which include Wood and Duck. To refine, search “Wood Duck” and you’ll see just Wood Duck results.

CHIME (it’s a little dinghy) is a Chesapeake Light Craft Passagemaker Dinghy. The kit was a family gift, and building help came from all of our children and kids, and Captain Hook (our dog, who endured many hours on the garage floor watching epoxy dry).
Everyone seems to love this little boat. Building one of Iain Oughtred’s designs has been a real pleasure — his plans are superb and to my eye at least are a work of art on their own. She performs really well, just out paddling, fishing or taking on some easy rivers.
John Beck built this Chesapeake Light Craft Shearwater 17 hybrid using white and red cedar strips for the hull and decking, and added aniline dye to the hull to give it a blue color. John won the best in show at the 2007 Okoume Fest sponsored by CLC.
Roy Terwilliger acquired Snipe Class #3258 in 1972 and has spent several years restoring it. The boat was originally built in 1937 by Roger Gintling of Sparrows Point, Maryland, for a cost of $165.
After my 100 lb chocolate lab tipped me over last summer in my canoe and I felt he might tip over the lapstrake rower I build two years ago, I decided that I needed to build a boat he couldn't tip over.
Van Dam Custom Boats launched a new 30' lapatrake design, CHOCOLATE CHIP3. This daycruiser features an open cockpit that includes a galley, dinette, and wet bar. With a 10' beam and enough seats for a crowd, CHOCOLATE CHIP3 provides a stable cruising platform.
Boatbuilder Douglas Brooks took these photographs of his friend Thomas Hickley, of Cornwall, Vermont, enjoying his new 7′9″ Sea Midge. Thomas built the boat from plans by William D.
Little Moby Skiff built by Tom Nolan and designed by Charles Wittholz. Okume plywood over sawn white oak frames. Added a small console for steering. Stainless steel fastenings and 50 hp Honda four stroke outboard.
I’m a fishing guide in Patagonia Argentina. A while ago I decided I wanted to build a drift boat. I got in touch with designer Jeff Spira and gave him a detailed account of how I was planning on using the boat and he came up with the Rawson.
