Launchings

A late 1950’s International Flying Dutchman Class sailboat. The Mahogany hull was cold-moulded in Holland and imported by Paul Rimoldi of Miami Florida. Mr Rimoldi made everything else, including many pieces of hardware.

The boat is powered with a 40 HP Mariner motor. All wood was purchased from a home improvement store and covered with epoxy and fiberglass. The design is from Jeff Spira and the model name is the Kachemak.

Since 2001, Camp Winona in Bridgton, ME, has offered its 13- to 16-year-old campers a chance to build a canoe each summer. By 2004 they had built four E.M. White 18' trip canoes, which they use in their canoe trip program. This canoe was launched August 1, 2004.

OTIS is a 19' Triple Cockpit Barrelback Runabout, built by Ed Van Kirk and designed by Ken Hankinson. Launched in April 3005, it uses a 5.7 liter Volvo Penta engine, with 13L13 prop. Ed uses his boat in the waters around Constantine, MI.

NA HUI HUI A MAKA LILI is Hawaiian for "Seven Sister Stars". It is also the name of Ben Travis' sailing outrigger canoe. Built in April of 2001, it is 16' long with a 30" beam. The unusual sail was cut from a parachute. Ben calls the rig a sprit-half-gaff rig.

Stephanie Alley launched this flat bottom skiff, PYXIS, on July 17, 2004. The design for PYXIS is based on the skiff SILAS by J. A. Emmett and was built by Sam Temple of Blue Hill, ME. It is built of cedar planking on whiteoak frames.

David Lester sails this boat in Puget Sound near his home in Fox Island, WA. She is a Clancy class sailing dinghy designed by J. D. Brown and Bob Pickett of Anacortes, WA. David constructed her of 1/4" okoume plywood using the stitch-and-glue method. She has a 9'9" LOA with a beam of 4'.

TWINKLE (yup, that’s her name) was conceived on April 15, 2017 and launched on July 30. Her home is Rocky Mount, NC. She is a Chesapeake 17 sea kayak from Chesapeake Light Craft. Made of Okoume marine plywood, epoxy, fiberglass, varnish and more than a little blood and sweat.

Viking Ship Wine and Liquor Cabinet. The keel is steam bent/laminated white oak. Planking is steam bent red oak. Decking is also red oak. The hinges are modufied to look as if covered in seaweed. The cabinet interior “trays” are koa and walnut, where drinks can be poured.
