SHIRLEY is a Redfish Kayaks Spring Run. She has been something of labour of love, having been in progress for 4 plus years. She is built of Western Red Cedar, Paulownia and Hoop Pine, and comes in at about 18Kg or 40lbs.
Launched my Skunk Island Skiff sailing version built from plywood and pine. Douglas fir mast, spars and oats. Stainless steel fasteners and hardware.
Re-launching of a 9 ft. Ken Douglas lapstrake row boat after some minor repairs, paint and varnish.
CAPITAL GAINES is a glass over plywood boat constructed with sapele frames, meranti marine plywood, with sapele and cypress accents. It’s powered with a Yamaha 70hp outboard motor.
JUBY is a Shellback Dinghy made at WoodenBoat School and finished at home in North Carolina. It has won awards at the N.C Wooden Boat Show and the Cape Fear C.C Wooden Boat Shows. The Shellback can be sailed, rowed or sculled. It also makes for an excellent tender.
Van Dam Custom Boats launched a new 30' lapatrake design, CHOCOLATE CHIP3. This daycruiser features an open cockpit that includes a galley, dinette, and wet bar. With a 10' beam and enough seats for a crowd, CHOCOLATE CHIP3 provides a stable cruising platform.
Thomas Mayenburg built this 12' 8" car-top Modified McInnis Bateau with his brother and a friend. The design is from John Gardner's Building Classic Small Craft, Vol. 2. They used 3/8" plywood on the bottom, and 3/8" red cedar strakes.
After seeing the Piccolo in WoodenBoat magazine (Nos. 36 & 37) my brother and I fell in love with it and began construction... 10 years later the boat is complete and launched this past spring although my brother passed away before he could see it completed.
