Two kit boats from Chesapeake Light Craft, built from March to July, 2012. Mill Creek 16.5 and Chesapeake 17LT. Built in my shop in Points, WV, and launched at Camp Seven Lake, near Manistique, MI.
Growler is our new, highly versatile transom-stern cruising canoe, and “big sister” to our popular and highly acclaimed 12 ft. solo canoe, Newt.
The boat was designed and built in the spring and summer of 2024. The hulls are made of 1/4 inch birch plywood. Construction is tape and glue with 4 ounce fiberglass clothe overlay. Mahogany deck is from all salvage and recycled materials. The boat paddles very easily and is also very stable.
Jason Corsini of Quiet Waters Boatworks in Riva, MD built this beautiful example of Cerny Yacht Design’s Hill 16. Using a unique strip plank method and sheathed in fiberglass, she is lightweight, dry, and seaworthy while powered with a 40 horsepower outboard.
This is a flat-bottomed 16-foot fishing boat called a gandelow (see WB 249 and 250) used in the Shannon river estuary of western Ireland.
1942 Halvorsen Cruiser. Purchased in Sydney, trucked to Hobart and spent 2.5 years out of the water, undercover rebuilding. Cabin sides and windscreen had been damaged by rot. Double diagonal oregan planking on the hull which when stripped back was in excellent condition.
BLACKFIN is a Pilgrim Pride 16 center console skiff designed by Paul Bennett of Shoe String Shipyard. Brothers Michael and David Hitt built it at David's home in Annapolis, MD, and launched BLACKFIN in October of 2001. The construction is of epoxy-covered plywood.
Sweet-lined Acorn skiff designed by Iain Oughtred, completed in 1999 but still like new.
