During August 2010, Don Warfield, Phil Andrews, and Lamar Keeney were among the students who took Jerry Stelmok’s class in Traditional Wood-and-Canvas Canoe Construction at the WoodenBoat School in Brooklin, ME.
Plans and plywood bought in 2000, then life got in the way. Retirement in 2018 removed all excuses and slow progress began in 2019. The covid lockdown provided the dedicated time needed for completion.
Jim Maas designed and built this 17'6" flat-bottomed skiff. Launched in the summer of 2001, it is the fourth boat he has built. He boats mostly in the Chesapeake Bay and Delaware River, but spent some of the summer at Lake Newboro, Ontario, where he says that wooden guide boats are not uncommon.

Rowland Hill completed this 15' x 4' York Delaware Ducker in November 2000. He got the plans from Mystic Seaport Museum. Planking is epoxied Sapeli marine plywood. Rowland used oak for the stem, rudder, dagger board, and cowling. He and his son sail the boat in Pleasant Bay, Cape Cod.
I launched my boat July 27, 2015, I started the build on December 4, 2014. I have 814 hours in the build. The boat performs very Well. I installed a new 70 HP Yamaha 4 stroke outboard with the command link instrument package. The boat reached 29 MPH at 6200 RPM. Getting 5.4 MPG of fuel.
I’ve had a notion for a long time to build a wooden sailboat and teach myself to sail in it. I chose the Passagemaker Take-Apart Dinghy because I could build it and store it in my suburban two-car garage. I wanted the added complexity of a jib to make it more of a challenge to sail properly.
I built this kayak for my 12-year-old granddaughter. When her mom was that age she had a small sailboat. So I decided to add a drop-in sail rig to the kayak so she can use the boat either way.
